Job DescriptionUnder administrative direction of an educational administrator, develop curriculum, provide lecture and laboratory instruction, evaluate student performance of students engaged in the study of U.S. History and other related courses, and perform other related work as required.
Examples Of Functions and Tasks- Curriculum Development - ESSENTIAL: Review and evaluate curriculum to meet student interests and needs within budget constraints; coordinate with adjunct faculty to enhance consistency of lecture/laboratory content; evaluate and/or revise course descriptions; present proposals to the Curriculum Committee; make changes to curriculum as approved within shared governance.
- Curriculum Development - PERIPHERAL: Review curriculum for concordance with changes in laws, regulations, and standards.
- Lecture/Laboratory Preparation - ESSENTIAL: Review and evaluate new textbooks for content, readability, and cost effectiveness; select textbooks; read current literature; review and select and/or prepare computer and audio-visual materials; prepare typewritten and/or graphic handouts; coordinate with book publishing company sales representatives.
- Lecture/Laboratory Preparation - PERIPHERAL: Complete book order forms; place reference items on reserve in the library; prepare lesson plans; attend conferences; familiarize self with equipment.
- Lecture/Laboratory Presentation - ESSENTIAL: Introduce and present lecture/laboratory information in a clear manner; use analogies and examples; provide instructional objectives; outline major points; enhance presentations with visual aids; distribute handouts; answer student questions; encourage participation; monitor activity; maintain order.
- Student Performance Evaluation - ESSENTIAL: Develop quizzes, texts, and examinations; monitor during exams; prevent cheating; read and grade papers; assign and evaluate homework; tabulate scores; advise students; refer to student services.
- Student Performance Evaluation - PERIPHERAL: Input student scores into a computer; make printouts available to students.
- Shared Governance Participation - ESSENTIAL: Attend and participate in departmental meetings; respond in writing to requests; participate in curriculum development, investigation and costing of departmental equipment; represent department by serving on campus-wide committees.
- Shared Governance Participation - PERIPHERAL: Attend and participate in divisional and/or building meetings; serve on employee selection committees; serve as functional member of committees and/or task forces; read and respond to information polls.
- Ancillary Student Services - ESSENTIAL: Hold regular office hours; provide advice; serve as positive role model; participate in graduation and award ceremonies.
- Ancillary Student Services - PERIPHERAL: Provide letters of recommendation; hold review sessions; advise and encourage students relative to curriculum.
- Master's degree in History
- OR Bachelor's degree in History AND Master's degree in Political Science, Humanities, Geography, Area Studies, Women's Studies, Social Science, or Ethnic Studies (or equivalent)
- Valid teaching credentials may be required for verification of prior teaching or work experience.
- Copies of transcripts must be attached (photocopies or unofficial transcripts are accepted).

Placement on the District's Faculty Salary Schedule is dependent upon years of experience and level of education. Entry-level salary ranges from $66,812.56 to $89,535.23. The highest salary attainable after employment is. Benefits include health and welfare, income protection, STRS membership, sick leave, sabbatical, and other leaves per collective bargaining agreement.
