SMA America is seeking a Service Engineer to support our Needville, TX site. The Service Engineer is responsible for maintaining Utility & commercial inverters, PV Solar equipment, and customer site equipment in the field.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Service Engineer will work to maintain equipment, commission, troubleshoot, repair, and analyze Utility & commercial inverter applications, and maintain excellent customer service activities.

Primary Duties / Responsibilities
  • Commissions, troubleshoots, repairs, and analyzes Utility & commercial inverters, PV Solar equipment, and customer site equipment in the field.
  • Develops a detailed knowledge of SMA’s inverter products and associated PV accessories.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of applicable National Electric and Electrical safety codes.
  • Regularly works with high voltage DC electricity, low & medium voltage three-phase power, and relevant software and firmware.
  • Maintains a high level of customer satisfaction while striving to lower the costs of field service.
  • Works at heights, on ladders or lift equipment, and has the ability to operate forklifts.
  • Travels as required to SMA or customer sites.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED TRAINING
  • An Associate’s degree or higher in a technical field is strongly preferred.
Required Relevant Professional Experience
  • At least 2 years of experience in PV Solar and/or PV Solar O&M.
  • At least 3 years of experience in electrical, electronic, and/or network communications.
  • NABCEP Certification is strongly preferred.
Other Specialized Skills
  • Knowledge of solar and/or alternative energy markets is preferred.
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Proficiency in the English language is required, and German and/or Spanish language skills are a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy are required.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems effectively.
  • This position requires infrequent domestic and international travel.
