Key Responsibilities- Serve as an ambassador for the department, receive radio and telephone calls, resolve complaints, provide information and promote awareness of procedures, maintain confidentiality.
- Prepare and proofread documents, prepare accident, injury, criminal, incident, traffic, and reports, maintain incident logs.
- Respond to parking violations, enforce parking regulations, conduct traffic control.
- Assist in investigations of violations of laws and district policies in a trauma‑informed manner.
- Provide safety escorts for students, staff, or the public as requested.
- Respond to on‑campus emergencies as first responder, provide basic first aid or CPR.
- Patrol campus by foot, vehicle, and bicycle; open/close gates, observe hazards, extinguish small blazes.
- Respond to alarms, emergency and non‑emergency calls, evaluate situations, pursue suspects, make citizen arrests, request assistance.
- Perform incident scene control and investigation, preserve evidence, communicate with supervisors.
- Provide onboarding support, training, guidance, supervision assistance for students or temporary workers.
- Check parking and ticket dispensers, report malfunctions, collect fares.
- Transport or escort cash transfers, make deliveries as related to safety and security.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with staff, students, peers, and the public.
- Assist with access control, monitoring, and security camera review.
- Participate in campus‑wide meetings and events to build community rapport.
- Perform related duties that support the overall objective of the position.
Education/Training
- Completion of twelfth grade or General Educational Development (GED). Preferred: degree in modern policing from a California Community College.
- Two years of general safety and/or security experience, preferably involving extensive public contact.
- Valid California driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Valid Guard Card.
- Appropriate School Security Guard Training and Certification (SB 1626).
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
- Hazardous Materials Awareness Certificate.
- Community College specific POST training.
- Law enforcement practices, Title IX, crime prevention, community‑based policing, evidence‑based policing, theft and loss prevention, de‑escalation, restorative justice, self‑defense, arrest techniques, and legal use of force.
- Trauma‑informed and equity‑minded investigative techniques.
- Federal, state, and local laws and regulations (FERPA, ADA, Title IX, Racial and Identity Profiling Action Plan).
- California Education and Safety Codes related to campus safety.
- Campus safety policies and procedures, basic first aid and CPR.
- Effective traffic and parking control, general safety precautions, and emergency procedures.
- Support for individuals with varying backgrounds, historical inequities, public relations, outreach.
- English grammar, spelling, punctuation, proofreading.
- Patrol facilities and detect, prevent, and report issues.
- Assess emergencies and develop response strategies.
- Identify security hazards.
- Observe and report health information.
- Provide basic first aid and CPR.
- Operate vehicles safely and defensively.
- Use radios and communication devices.
- Remain calm under stress.
- Support diverse campus groups.
- Apply an equity‑minded framework.
- Interact effectively with diverse populations.
- Exercise sensitivity to student diversity.
