Salary: $19.14 - $20.11 per hour (January 2026: $19.62 - $20.61 per hour)
Provides a variety of accurate processing of general civil and criminal procedural, clerical and bookkeeping support work for the District Clerk’s office in accordance with department procedures and statutory and constitutional regulations.

Has daily contact with District and County Court at Law Judges, Community Supervision, other federal, state, and county offices, local law enforcement offices, attorneys and their clients and the general public
- Interacts with the general public in person, over the telephone, or through correspondence for resolution of questions or problems and for filing new cases and documents and receipts, and issuing process that includes writs that affect life and liberty.
- Prepares documents and issues process including citations, citations by posting, new petitions, motions, address changes, subpoenas, writs, capias and alias capias, protective orders, temporary orders, judicial bypass procedures, executions (civil and criminal) and abstracts of judgment, enters data in state database(s) as required.
- Accesses microfilmed records.
- Performs record searches on criminal and civil cases.
- Maintains current knowledge of statutes, rules and regulations relating to department responsibilities including but not limited to Texas Government Code, Texas Local Government Code, Texas Rules of Court, Texas Codes of Civil and Criminal Procedures, Texas Family Code, Texas Property Code and local District and county Court at Law Rules, and the Texas Constitution.
- Collects civil and criminal fines and court costs.
- Accepts and processes passport applications.
- Performs ministerial duties including accepting and sending efiled documents, signing and sealing documents, file stamping and oaths, opening and processing interoffice and U.S. mail.
- Assists District and County Court at Law Judges as required.
- Orders supplies, makes bank deposits.
- Serves as court clerk.
- Updates records on new and old cases, enters and images (scans) archived case documents into computer.
- Performs other clerical, bookkeeping and other duties as needed.
Skills and Abilities
- High school graduation, or its equivalent, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License or alternate available transportation.
- NCIC/TCIC training.
- U.S. Department of State Passport Acceptance Agent certification.
Knowledge of civil and criminal judicial practices and procedures, general office practices and procedures; basic bookkeeping; government regulations, procedures, and legislation; word processing and spreadsheet software; and computers.
Skill/Ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment; handle public under stressful and crisis situations; accurately balance accounts; handle large sums of money; manage time effectively; interpret policies and procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co‑workers, other county employees, clients, and the general public; understand and follow direction; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and perform simple and complex mathematical calculations.
