Position Details – Deputy Sheriff – Patrol
Location: Rockport, TX
Openings: 1
Salary Range: $56,244.14 Annually
- Patrol county with emphasis on traffic safety, assist stranded motorists, and provide directions.
- Respond to emergency calls and routine complaints; control traffic at accident scenes.
- Investigate traffic accidents, civil disturbances, and crimes against persons and property; assist federal, state, and local law enforcement in investigations.
- Conduct searches of buildings, vehicles, and outdoor areas to detect potential weapons, contraband, evidence, hazards, or stolen property.
- Serve subpoenas and civil papers; take telephone calls from the general public to answer questions and provide information.
- Perform educational talks to students, citizens, and civic groups; promote positive community relations.
- Oversee periodic vehicle maintenance; transport prisoners and mental patients to and from court, hospitals, or correctional facilities as required; guard prisoners at trials and hospital stays.
- Serve as Bailiff in court hearings and testify in court as required.
- Assist jail personnel, probation officers, and other law enforcement personnel when necessary; conduct undercover and special assignments as required.
- Complete paperwork and necessary reports associated with offenses and arrests; attend continuing education as required to maintain certification.
- High school graduation or equivalent; basic certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE);
Texas Driver’s License with good driving record. - Knowledge of criminal, traffic, and civil law; departmental policies and procedures; investigation methods; identification records processes and procedures.
- Skill/ability to safely use vehicles, firearms, and specialized equipment; operate a computer to prepare records and reports; demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communication; maintain accurate records.
- Physical agility requirements as specified in the Aransas County Sheriff’s Office policy and procedures manual.
