Position Details – Deputy Sheriff – Patrol

Location: Rockport, TX
Openings: 1
Salary Range: $56,244.14 Annually

Responsibilities
  • Patrol county with emphasis on traffic safety, assist stranded motorists, and provide directions.
  • Respond to emergency calls and routine complaints; control traffic at accident scenes.
  • Investigate traffic accidents, civil disturbances, and crimes against persons and property; assist federal, state, and local law enforcement in investigations.
  • Conduct searches of buildings, vehicles, and outdoor areas to detect potential weapons, contraband, evidence, hazards, or stolen property.
  • Serve subpoenas and civil papers; take telephone calls from the general public to answer questions and provide information.
  • Perform educational talks to students, citizens, and civic groups; promote positive community relations.
  • Oversee periodic vehicle maintenance; transport prisoners and mental patients to and from court, hospitals, or correctional facilities as required; guard prisoners at trials and hospital stays.
  • Serve as Bailiff in court hearings and testify in court as required.
  • Assist jail personnel, probation officers, and other law enforcement personnel when necessary; conduct undercover and special assignments as required.
  • Complete paperwork and necessary reports associated with offenses and arrests; attend continuing education as required to maintain certification.
Qualifications
  • High school graduation or equivalent; basic certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE);
    Texas Driver’s License with good driving record.
  • Knowledge of criminal, traffic, and civil law; departmental policies and procedures; investigation methods; identification records processes and procedures.
  • Skill/ability to safely use vehicles, firearms, and specialized equipment; operate a computer to prepare records and reports; demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communication; maintain accurate records.
  • Physical agility requirements as specified in the Aransas County Sheriff’s Office policy and procedures manual.
  • Must be able to comply with ADA reasonable accommodations; this description does not take into account potential reasonable accommodations.
