Communicate Health is a growing health communication firm with a passion for health literacy and inclusive design. Our mission is simple: to advance health equity by designing health information that’s easy to access, understand, and use. By creating health communications that are clear, accessible, and inclusive, we give people what they need to make informed decisions about their health — and ultimately help advance health equity.

Although we don’t currently have specific opportunities to offer, we are looking to expand our network of freelance writers and editors because we are anticipating needing freelance support this year.

You’re an experienced freelance writer or editor with a background in health communication or public health. You excel at translating complicated health information into content that’s clear and actionable — and that follows health literacy and plain language best practices. You’re interested in being part of Communicate Health’s small network of independent contractors who occasionally take on writing or editing tasks to support our government, non‑profit, and private clients.

• Your resume
• At least 1 sample of your writing — ideally, the sample shows your skills, as lead writer, in plain language, clear communication, and scientific accuracy for:
  • A health‑related audience (like health care consumers or patients, health care providers, or public health practitioners)
  • Digital (like web or social media) or print (like patient education materials) assets
  • Government, foundation, professional organization, non‑profit, or health‑related business clients
• Your hourly rate
• Your availability — including when you’d be able to start taking work, approximately how many hours per week you can offer, and any other details you’d like to share about your availability
• At least 1 reference who can speak to your freelance work
