Director of Digital Media Strategy (Legislative Senior Aide I, Grade N18)
Montgomery County, MD Council member Evan Glass (D-At Large) is seeking a creative, strategic, and digitally fluent Director of Digital Media Strategy (Legislative Senior Aide I) to lead the office’s day‑to‑day social media. This hands‑on role focuses on creating daily digital content—posts, reels, and graphics—that explain policy, highlight the Council member’s work in the community, and connect residents to local government. The position also leads the drafting of the office’s biweekly newsletter and core written materials, including certificates, proclamations, and community‑facing communications.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the Council member’s digital communications strategy, including daily management of content across social media platforms.
- Draft compelling, accessible content including press releases, bi‑weekly newsletters, social media posts, talking points, proclamations, op‑eds, and more.
- Produce and edit videos, graphics, and photography to support policy storytelling and public engagement.
- Monitor news and public conversations relevant to Montgomery County and identify proactive communications opportunities.
- Respond to media inquiries and coordinate press events and interviews.
- Work closely with the Council member, Chief of Staff, and legislative team to ensure messaging reflects the Council member’s values and policy priorities.

Minimum Qualifications- One (1) year of progressively responsible experience in legislative/policy research or professional‑level experience, preferably with a background in communications.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
- Three (3) plus years of professional experience in communications, digital media, or earned media, preferably in an elected official’s office, public affairs, advocacy, or community engagement role.
- Demonstrated experience creating and publishing daily social media content, including posts, short‑form videos, and graphics that tell a clear, engaging story.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with experience producing a range of public‑facing materials such as newsletters, certificates, proclamations, talking points, and general correspondence.
- Proficiency with digital content tools, including Canva and video editing platforms.
- Strong editorial judgment and ability to communicate clearly, accurately, and respectfully in a public‑facing role.
- Passion for local news, social media, and community conversations to help identify timely and relevant engagement opportunities.
- Experience supporting or coordinating media inquiries and press activities, as needed.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with senior leadership and cross‑functional teams to ensure messaging aligns with policy priorities and ongoing work.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
