Overview
The Television Producer and Production Specialist collaborates with city departments and the Department of Communications and Community Engagement to produce engaging video and graphic content for broadcast on Rockville 11, the station’s You Tube channel, and the city’s social media platforms. The position serves as a videographer for the city, owning the video production process from concept through final delivery, including field production and studio camera operations for live meetings, as well as post-production editing, segment producing, and scriptwriting for broadcast programming and digital content.
This role requires a newsroom-style mindset, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage quick turnarounds, and apply strong news-style storytelling techniques to communicate city initiatives, programs, and events effectively to the community.
- Serve as the videographer for the city, owning the video production process from concept through final delivery.
- Conduct field production and studio camera operations for live meetings.
- Manage post-production editing, segment producing, and scriptwriting for broadcast programming and digital content.
- Collaborate with city departments and the Department of Communications and Community Engagement to produce engaging video and graphic content for Rockville 11, You Tube, and city social media platforms.
- Apply newsroom-style storytelling techniques in fast-paced environments with quick turnarounds to communicate city initiatives, programs, and events.
- Minimum of 5 years in television production, video photography, and editing.
- Script writing knowledge, segment producing, and story conception.
- Working knowledge of digital/ENG video cameras;
Panasonic P2 Cam is a plus. - Ability to film/shoot/produce as a “one-man band” with a focus on lighting, audio solutions, and visual storytelling.
- Proficiency in Final Cut Pro (X/Studio
7) and Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, with emphasis on After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator). - Ability to edit using the above software and handle post-production, including script writing and some voiceover work.
- Ability to use video and graphics to create content that connects with audiences through social media and other platforms (on-air, You Tube channel, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
- Strong visual communication skills and ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Thorough understanding of MAC computers;
Windows knowledge is a plus. - Team-oriented with branding focus; capable of bringing basic promotional themes to life using pre-determined design elements and video treatment/graphics package.
- Innovative approaches to telling Rockville’s story using video.
- Strong communication and collaborative skills.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends.
- Set design is a plus (green screen, lighting, audio, etc.).
- On-air experience is a plus.
- Ability to take critiques and production notes and apply feedback to the final video product.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in broadcasting, broadcast engineering, television production, or a closely related field from an accredited university or college; or equivalent experience; and five (5) years of progressively responsible work in television or video production including operation and care of equipment, editing, coordinating of participants, materials, props, etc.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Within their resume/application, candidate must attach a link to a reel of their most recent editing, shooting, and on-air work for consideration and be prepared to perform a field test that showcases shooting and editing skills based on a specific topic as part of the selection process.
