Occupational Medicine Physician – Reviewing Medical Officer (RMO) – Medical Employability Program (MEP)
STGi is recruiting for an Occupational Medicine Physician – Reviewing Medical Officer (RMO) for Federal Occupational Health Services (FOH) in Rockville, MD and/or Nationwide/Remote.
The RMO provides consultative reviews for federal agencies requesting formal medical opinions on cases involving Reasonable Accommodation, FMLA, federal loan forgiveness, fitness for duty or return to work evaluations, handicapped parking requests, Advanced Sick Leave, among others. The RMO is a board-certified physician with significant experience in occupational and environmental medicine and knowledge of federal laws governing the listed case types.
The RMO works independently but provides consultation, training, and collaboration for other team members to ensure the quality of reviews and a high level of customer service.
- Clinical – Participate in preparation for TJC accreditation, maintain medical records securely, maintain appointment to medical staff, maintain board certification and licenses, participate in FOH peer review, assist in continuous quality improvement assessments.
- Service Operations – Perform various types of occupational medical reviews, provide medical content of written and oral consultation determinations, support medical and consultative needs for Federal agencies, perform administrative, clinical, consultant responsibilities, complete reviews per FOH policy, demonstrate technical expertise, work effectively in high-stress situations, possess knowledge of federal occupational safety and health regulations, conduct hands‑on examinations if required, provide consultation with local emergency management, give presentations to Federal agency employee groups, provide expert witness testimony.
- Administrative (Business/Management) – Perform work as contract employee, submit monthly billing, report billing accurately, ensure at least 85% of hours submitted to staffing vendor are billable.
- Staffing and Reporting Relationships – Receive program direction from FOH program director, provide oversight for Physician Assistants performing reviews.
- Technology – Complete training and demonstrate proficiency in FOH IT systems.
- Customer Service – Demonstrate professional conduct, provide quality work products promptly, collaborate with Federal agency clients and FOH team members.
- Metrics – Review performance metrics quarterly with supervisor.
- Advanced training in Public Health with prior experience as medical consultant for a federal agency.
- Comprehend and apply medical and physical requirements for employability and return to duty.
- Apply Position Description requirements in matters of fitness for duty.
- Research and apply latest federal regulations or advise recommended standards (OSHA, ADA, FMLA, disability guidelines) for federal populations.
- Experience dealing with diverse organizations and stakeholders.
- Broad knowledge of federal workplace drug testing programs and expert witness experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, HIPAA-compliant encryption software.
- Effective communication skills in writing and verbally.
- Knowledge of federal regulations and ability to research and design occupational medicine programs.
- Qualified medical or osteopathic physician with current license.
- Board-certified in occupational/preventive medicine, or primary care specialty (internal or family medicine) with at least five years in occupational medicine and two years in an occupational clinic setting.
- Expert understanding of federal safety and health regulations and experience addressing ADA requests.
- Master of Public Health strongly preferred.
