Description
The Neuropsychologist is responsible for the care of patients in the hospital and clinics, as well as research, educational and advocacy initiatives as determined by the Division Chief and/or Executive Director.
QualificationsMinimum Education
Doctorate in Psychology (PsyD) from an APA/CPA‑accredited college or university. Completion of accredited pre‑doctoral internship with supervised clinical neuropsychology experience and a required postdoctoral fellowship.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from an APA/CPA‑accredited college or university. Completion of accredited pre‑doctoral internship with supervised clinical neuropsychology experience and a required postdoctoral fellowship.
Minimum Work Experience
2 years of clinical care focused on pediatric and adolescent populations. May be satisfied through postdoctoral residency training in clinical neuropsychology.
Required Skills/Knowledge
Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in neuropsychology.
Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for medical care.
Ability to evaluate patient problems independently and develop care plans.
Ability to incorporate ethical concepts into patient care and discuss them with patients, families and team members.
Ability to supervise, advise and train clinical professionals and/or students.
Ability to maintain quality, safety and infection‑control standards.
Commitment to continued medical education and staying current on developments in the subspecialty.
Compliance with legal and ethical standards for medical care.
Required Licenses and Certifications
Fully licensed psychologist and credentialed attending staff category physician on the Children’s National Hospital medical staff upon hire.
- Provide clinical services for patients at Children’s Hospital and approved sites ethically, professionally and timely.
- Oversee the medical care team and manage direct patient care for a specified population; improve continuity of care, customer service and partnerships with community physicians through timely record completion and communication.
- Provide on‑call services as determined by the Division Chief.
- Actively participate in family‑centered care and communicate professionally and compassionately; refer patients to specialists and relevant ancillary services as appropriate.
- Use the defined chain of command and escalation policies.
- Respond to team members and outside physicians timely and respectfully; communicate clearly to trainees regarding patient updates, significant clinical changes and encourage trainee questions.
- Participate in CNMC’s advocacy initiatives.
- Contribute scholarly effort to the advancement of public policy promoting population‑based pediatric health and well‑being.
- Teach patients and families about treatment, prevention, and care enhancement techniques.
- Participate in specific health promotion, education and/or prevention programs.
- Contribute scholarly effort to the advancement of public policy that promotes population‑based pediatric health and well‑being.
- Conduct research of significant scientific value in the clinical and translational science area(s) relevant to the practice specialty.
- Review manuscripts for peer‑reviewed journals.
- Publish in peer‑reviewed scientific, quality and management journals.
- Submit grant or contract applications for funding research projects.
- Participate in research committees, workshop special interest groups, etc.
- Participate in CNMC’s medical education programs through learning activities with colleagues and trainees.
- Participate in hospital/university‑wide educational programs when appropriate.
- Participate in local, regional and national educational efforts when appropriate.
- Provide timely feedback to trainees.
- Ensure adequate orientation for the trainees’ care.
- Supervise and train clinical professionals and students effectively.
- Follow established bylaws, policies, procedures, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and infection‑control standards.
