FY26:
Cataloging & Processing Librarian, Library Media/Automation Support Unit

Under direction, performs professional library work in the cataloging and classification of both print and non‑print instructional materials used by the staff of the county school system. The work involves cataloging materials according to standard criteria and standards.

Job Specific Information

Wage range: $31.76 – $45.95 per hour, based on years of service.

Primary

Location:

Rockville.

Schedule:

Part‑time, 12 working months, Day job.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of the latest standards and technology applications related to cataloging, acquisitions and processing of library materials.
  • Experience with original cataloging of traditional materials and new media such as e‑books.
  • Use of MARC records, subject headings and an integrated library system.
  • Professional classification work in processing books and other instructional materials.
  • Analyze administrative library problems and recommend solutions.
  • Plan, organize, and direct the work of a small group of clerical subordinates and collaborate with an advisory group of school‑based librarians.
  • Good human relations and oral/write communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required; degree in library science required.
  • Considerable professional library experience, including some experience in a school library media center.
  • Experience in using state‑of‑the‑art library software technology.
  • Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to a master’s degree may be considered.
  • Certificate License:
    Meets Maryland state certification for an Educational Media Generalist, Level II by the Maryland State Department of Education.
