Long-Term Substitute Teacher, English Level 2/Level 3 (Gr 6-12), Blair Ewing Center (Full time)
Under the direction of the Alternative Programs supervisor/designee, plans and implements a program for secondary school students to:
- provide differentiated instruction
- remediate academic deficiencies
- improve behavior and social skills
- improve attendance
- support students in meeting exit criteria to make them eligible to return to a comprehensive school program
Physical Demands:
As required by the duties and responsibilities of the job.
Special Requirements: Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.
Job Specific Information: Long‑term sub position, Nov 14 – Dec 23. Wage range: $20.29 – $35.84 per hour. This position does not include benefits.

Full‑time;
Day Job. Working months: 10. Primary location:
Rockville.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of MCPS curriculum and a broad repertoire of effective instructional strategies; a keen understanding of human behavior; skills in motivating reluctant learners and building school connectedness; expertise in differentiated instruction and teaching basic skills; skill in behavioral management strategies and social skills instruction; ability to work collaboratively; excellent communication and human relations skills; ability to work effectively with the supervisor, site coordinator, leadership team members, colleagues, and parents.
Education, Training, and
Experience:
Master's degree or equivalent with special interest in teaching at‑risk adolescents; three years outstanding teacher experience; other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered. Certificate‑License:
Meet Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for a core high school subject:
English, math, science, social studies or special education.
