Summary DescriptionUnder the direction of the Alternative Programs supervisor/ designee, plans and implements a program for secondary school students to provide differentiated instruction, remediate academic deficiencies, improve behavior and social skills, improve attendance, and support students in meeting exit criteria to make them eligible to return to a comprehensive school program. Required to attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.
- Plan and deliver differentiated instruction for secondary school students.
- Remediate academic deficiencies to support learning outcomes.
- Improve students’ behavior and social skills through targeted interventions.
- Monitor and increase student attendance.
- Support students in meeting exit criteria so they can transition back to a comprehensive program.
- Attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.
- Thorough knowledge of MCPS curriculum and effective instructional strategies.
- Understanding of human behavior and experience motivating reluctant learners.
- Expertise in differentiated instruction and teaching basic skills.
- Skill in behavioral management strategies and social skills instruction.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with supervisors, site coordinators, leaders, colleagues, and parents.
- Excellent communication and human relations skills.
- Master’s degree or equivalent with special interest in teaching at-risk adolescents.
- Three years of outstanding teacher experience (other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience may be considered).
- Certificate/license meeting Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for a core high school subject (English, math, science, social studies or special education).
Salary range: $64,591 – $131,472 based on education & experience.
