Program Assistant; ROCKIDZ Youth Mentoring Program

The City of Rockville’s ROCKIDZ Youth Mentoring Program is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Program Assistant. This role supports recreation activities, academic enrichment, and mentorship for elementary-aged youth. This position plays a key role in providing a safe, fun, and supportive environment where children can grow socially, emotionally, and academically.

• Working with elementary-aged children in recreation, education, mentoring, or youth development.
• Ability to lead recreational programs (soccer, basketball, group play).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to assist in community outreach.
• Ability to support academic enrichment activities.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to safely operate cars and vans.
• Must pass all required background checks.

• Coursework or training in education, recreation, child development, or related fields.
• CPR/First Aid certification.
• Prior experience in structured mentoring programs.

• Work takes place in classrooms and outdoor activity spaces.
• Must be able to stand for extended periods and participate in physical recreation activities.
• Duties may require light lifting of equipment or supplies.

• Ability to engage youth in active and enriching activities.
• Patience, flexibility, and strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to maintain positive relationships with youth, families, and coworkers.
• Ability to work collaboratively in fast-paced program environments.
• Ability to lead independently and in group settings.
