SUE Field Technician

Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT), an employee‑owned consultant engineering firm, is seeking an SUE Field Technician for our Rockville, MD office. The position can also be located in our Washington, DC office.

• Analyze and interpret complex utility records and prints.
• Travel to assigned work sites and perform utility designation, identifying and marking underground facilities.
• Use electromagnetic locating equipment and follow the AMT designating process to ensure accurate and complete locates.
• Wear appropriate safety equipment and follow established safety practices and procedures.
• Contact Senior SUE Tech when assistance is needed.
• Perform other duties assigned by management.

• 1+ years of experience with SUE and/or private utility locating.
• Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather and field conditions.
• Physical demands include extensive walking, bending, and the ability to open manhole covers or structures of varying weights.
• Experience working on a vacuum truck, performing maintenance, completing test holes and reports, and maintaining all vac truck equipment and supplies.
• Ability to read and understand directional maps, topographic maps, and various types of utility prints.
• Proficiency in using and interpreting electromagnetic utility locating equipment.
• Strong multitasking skills—making research calls for one project while commuting to another and coordinating with crew members.
• Willingness to work out‑of‑town on an as‑needed basis.
