Controller, Finance & Banking, Accounting Manager

Overview

The Corporate Controller is a key leader responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting functions. This role ensures accuracy, compliance, and meaningful financial insight in a fast-paced transportation environment. The Corporate Controller will manage the Finance Manager/Payroll team and the Accountant, partnering closely with leadership to support strategic decision-making.

Salary range: $115,000 to $130,000

• Financial Reporting and Analysis
  :
  Direct the timely and accurate preparation and publication of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP. Analyze financial data and provide insightful reporting to senior management, with a focus on monitoring
  Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) critical to the transportation industry.
• Budgeting and Forecasting
  :
  Lead the annual budgeting process and coordinate financial forecasts, with a strong emphasis on
  cash flow projections
  given the cash-sensitive nature of the industry. Report on variances to help guide operational decisions.
• Cost Control and Operational Efficiency
  :
  Identify opportunities to reduce net operating expenses through detailed
  cost analysis
  and
  rate studies
  . Monitor operational data for internal metrics reporting and help implement process improvements to enhance efficiency.
• Internal Controls and Compliance
  :
  Develop, document, and enforce internal controls and accounting policies and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure regulatory compliance with all local, state, and federal transport and financial regulations.
• Audit and Tax Management
  :
  Coordinate and manage all external audit activities and ensure accurate and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns and government reporting requirements.
• Asset Management
  :
  Oversee the accounting for and management of all
  fixed assets
  , including vehicle depreciation schedules, tracking use and location of assets, and ensuring maintenance schedules are considered in financial planning.
• Leadership and Team Management
  :
  Oversee, mentor, and develop the accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

• Education
  : A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required; a Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) is preferred.
• Certifications
  : CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification is highly preferred.
• Experience
  : A minimum of7years of progressive experience in accounting and financial management, with at least3years in a managerial or supervisory role. Experience in the transportation or a related logistics industry is a significant advantage.
• Technical Skills
  :
  Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures (GAAP) and experience with creating financial statements are mandatory. Proficiency with accounting software/ERP systems and business intelligence applications.
• Soft Skills
  :
  Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities are crucial. The role also requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and leadership qualities.
