Position Purpose
Life Skills - Assists the Future bound Independent Living (FILP) Coordinator in the implementation of a structured independent living program for the FILP residents by providing direction regarding the principals of living independently and skills for youth who have limited living resources. Responsible for teaching basic life skills to residents and enhancing problem solving skills needed to successfully manage aspects of life.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Participates in public relations and community education activities.
- Identifies gaps in services and advocates for increased resources.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree with two years of related experience preferred. Must have an understanding of the concepts of the life skills development, therapeutic milieu and the multi-disciplinary treatment team.
- Strong child care leadership with an ability to support and motivate a diverse staff serving vulnerable youth.
- Possession of strong interpersonal/conflict resolution skills. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to work as a team player.
- Broad working knowledge relative to the needs of the emotionally disturbed, victimized, learning disabled, delinquent adolescents and their family systems.
- A commitment to serving vulnerable youth who are challenged in transitioning to adulthood.
- An attitude compatible with the goals and purposes of the National Center for Children and Families.
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required for this job require close vision working with a computer monitor.
While performing the duties of this job, employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. While performing the responsibilities of the employee’s job, these work environment characteristics are representative of the environment the Human Resources Director will encounter.
