I. Purpose
The Business Systems Analyst plays a critical role in facilitating the selection, design, and implementation of software solutions that enable organizational staff to deliver valuable services to members and their professional communities. In this role, you will collaborate closely with stakeholders on diverse, cross-functional teams to identify and analyze business needs, translate these into clear and actionable requirements, and support teams through iterative design, implementation, testing, and continuous improvement efforts.
II. Key Responsibilities
- Elicit and understand high-level business objectives and use available resources to identify and recommend potential solutions.
- Utilize industry standard analysis techniques to progressively elaborate business goals into technical requirements sufficiently detailed to support implementation teams and inform testing and validation strategies.
- Guide business units through the process of evaluating and selecting third-party software systems and partners.
- Utilize modern work and knowledge management tools for task definition & planning, and stakeholder communication.
- Help maximize the useful life and value derived from software solutions by providing technical support, ongoing monitoring and communication, and participating in continuous improvement initiatives to add or enhance system capabilities.
- Participate on project teams as assigned, providing clear and effective communication to and from business stakeholders, project managers, and organization leadership to ensure complete transparency regarding project status and progress toward critical milestones.
- Provide analysis for daily technical support requests from organization staff, following up as needed to elicit and document sufficient detail, including reproduction steps, to facilitate rapid turnaround time and fault resolution by development teams.
- Serve as de facto project manager for operational initiatives managed outside the organization's primary project portfolio, including Information Systems infrastructure development and maintenance projects.
- Pursue continuing education and/or participate in relevant professional societies to stay apprised of emergent technologies and new standards for business analysis and software development.
IV. Autonomy & Decision Making
The Director of Business Systems Analysis assigns projects or tasks with broad objectives, constraints, and guidance. Required daily work proceeds independent of direct oversight. Progress toward key milestones is monitored and reported to organizational leadership directly or in collaboration with project managers in the Office of Business Excellence. Other key stakeholders are kept apprised of progress using established platforms, including Teams, Jira, and Confluence.
V. Qualifications & Skills
Knowledge typically acquired through:
- 2-3 years' experience in roles such as Business Analyst, Product Manager/Owner, Scrum Master, Agile Coach, or comparable role contributing to the success of digital products and services.
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related discipline(s): computer, information and data sciences, product and project management, business administration
- Active certification by the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA), Project Management Institute (PMI), or comparable credentialing body
Skills
- Understanding of requirements lifecycle management and iterative elaboration techniques necessary to synthesize high-level business goals into clear, concise, actionable objectives for implementation teams.
- Basic knowledge of the fundamental phases of the software development lifecycle.
- Experience with Jira, Confluence, Azure Dev Ops, or comparable work management tools.
- Experience developing and executing test plans to validate the correct function of software systems against acceptance criteria.
- Basic knowledge of modern database standards and integration methodologies such as REST, Graph
QL, and webhooks.
