POLICE OFFICER CANDIDATE - SESSION 81 July 2026 POLICE ACADEMY $20,000 HIRING BONUS WILL BE AWARDED TO SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATESThe department is currently looking for Police Officer Candidates who are ready to answer the call for a challenging and rewarding career in law enforcement. Our police officers receive comprehensive training in a state‑of‑the‑art training facility, and all uniforms and equipment are provided. We offer many opportunities to serve in our 6 District Police Stations and over 50 specialized units.
Applicants possessing the minimum qualifications will be invited via email (CHECK SPAM FOLDERS) to complete an online written examination. Applicants who successfully complete the written exam will be provided instructions to complete an online background investigation booklet, which must be filled out completely, along with instructions to upload all required background documents. Candidates must also successfully complete an oral interview, background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological and medical examination including a physical fitness component, and a drug and alcohol screen in order to receive a final offer of employment.
A Police Officer Candidate receives comprehensive training through a six (6) month recruit training program and a three (3) month field training program.

- Patrolling a designated area in the county to preserve the peace and to prevent and discover the commission of crime.
- Directing traffic at pedestrian crossings and street intersections.
- Enforcing motor vehicle operating and parking regulations.
- Performing communication functions.
- Conduct preliminary investigations at the scene of a crime.
- Administer first aid.
- Gather evidence, obtain witnesses, make arrests, and testify as a witness in court.
- Work varying shifts and may be called upon to work irregular hours.
The salary range above represents this position’s earning potential. The anticipated hiring range for this position will be $70,056 (minimum) - $73,560 (maximum) based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Experience:No previous experience in law enforcement is required.
Education:High School Graduation. Montgomery County Police Cadets may apply.
Other:- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident of the United States who is an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Armed Forces, and who has applied to obtain United States Citizenship, and the application is still pending approval.
- Not less than twenty‑one (21) years old as of the anticipated first day of employment as a sworn Police Officer.
Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class "C" (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant’s state of residence.
