Senior Litigation Paralegal

CGS Federal (Contact Government Services) is seeking an experienced Senior Litigation Paralegal to join our fast‑moving, highly active in‑house government legal team. This key role will support various aspects of our litigation portfolio, including eDiscovery activities, workflow management, and attorney support.

Pay range: $50,000.00 – $65,000.00 per year (actual pay based on skills and experience).

Responsibilities
  • Prepare a variety of technical legal documents that are characteristically complex in format.
  • Review incoming documents and material, consider the nature and status of the case involved.
  • Prepare indictments, arrest warrants, summonses, true bills, motions, orders, and other legal instruments.
  • Obtain required information from criminal case files, law enforcement agencies, or other sources to include in legal documents before submission to the appropriate AUSA for review.
  • Ensure recurring legal documents conform to local court rules and stylistic guidelines.
  • Assist attorneys in preparing for trial by compiling trial and witness notebooks, preparing and organizing trial exhibits, assembling jury instructions, and compiling witness and exhibit lists.
  • Coordinate with the victim/witness specialist to ensure adherence to departmental guidelines and notify case agents and staff of victim/witness issues.
  • Verify legal citations and statutory references using original and online resources such as Westlaw and Lexis/Nexis.
  • Conduct research to confirm citations are accurate, complete, and consistent with source material.
  • Proofread, edit, and revise legal briefs.
  • E‑electronically file legal documents with the U.S. District Court using the CM/ECF system.
  • Develop and organize tables of contents and indices for briefs in accordance with established format.
  • Compose original correspondence requiring a good working knowledge of legal procedures and specialized terminology.
  • Transmit proposed orders to the court and request extensions of time where appropriate.
  • Advise on actions taken or developments in cases referred by other federal departments and agencies, and notify attorneys representing defendants of various issues.
  • Scan, input, link case‑related materials into electronic discovery databases, manage those databases, and upload/download documents from law enforcement partners.
  • Manage discovery processing and production, bates‑stamp and redact discovery materials using Adobe Acrobat, and employ discovery processing techniques using IPRO Eclipse.
  • Send continuing discovery to defense counsel as directed by the assigned AUSA.
  • Maintain electronic case files, enter data in the case management system, calendar deadlines using MS Outlook, and prepare and file conflict of interest and case opening forms in the electronic case file.
Qualifications
  • Paralegal certificate, JD, or current enrollment in an ABA‑accredited law school with at least one year of study completed.
  • At least two years of litigation paralegal experience; trial experience is very helpful.
  • At least one year of experience in automated litigation support and a sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Hands‑on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
  • Hands‑on familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
  • Consistently deliver the highest quality work under extreme pressure.
