Long-Term Substitute (TPT) – Security Assistant, Julius West Middle School, 8 hrs/10 months

Positions in this class are assigned to the local school to assist the administration in maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for the school community. Under the general supervision of the security team leader, the candidate will screen visitor access to school facilities, help maintain student class attendance, and perform other responsibilities related to school security operations. Guidance will be provided on more difficult or unusual situations.

• Screen visitor access to school facilities and maintain accurate visitor logs.
• Assist in maintaining student class attendance records and monitoring school attendance.
• Conduct security patrols and respond to incidents, including physical restraint of individuals when necessary.
• Assist with emergency response procedures and coordinate with school staff during incidents.
• Maintain school property and ensure safety protocols are followed.

• High School diploma or GED required;
  Associate’s degree preferred.
• Experience in a safety or security role, preferably in an educational environment.
• Knowledge of behavior management techniques, investigative procedures, and school security practices.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work harmoniously with staff and students.
• Possession of a valid Maryland Class C noncommercial driver’s license and first‑aid/CPR certification.
• Physical ability to intervene in conflicts, restrain individuals, and perform extended patrols under varied weather conditions.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred; working knowledge of safety procedures essential.

• Work flexible hours, including weekends, to provide maximum security coverage.
• Occasional overtime required.
• Wear designated security uniforms.
