Job Description & How to Apply Below
- Build, wire and test Lumo Scanner units and subassemblies: gantry, camera array, pan and zoom motors, lighting and cabling.
- Request, receive and inspect units and parts from our contract manufacturer and suppliers, and resolve build issues with them directly.
- Keep the build area, tools, spare parts and inventory organized and in working order.
Install imagers
- Travel to customer sites to finish assembly, wall-mount the system, power it up, align and calibrate it, and hand over a working scanner. Each install is a two-person job of about one week. One is scheduled for December 2026 and five are planned for 2027.
- Learn the installation on the first jobs alongside our CEO and CTO, who lead them. After that you lead installs yourself and train the next installer the same way.
- Check each site before shipment: room size (minimum 5 ft by 9 ft), wall structure, a dedicated 120 V / 40 A circuit and wired ethernet.
- Train clinic staff on basic operation, and handle hardware service and calibration after installation.
Document changes
- Write and maintain assembly work instructions, installation procedures, checklists, drawings and bills of materials.
- Record every hardware change: what changed, why, and which serial numbers it applies to.
- Keep as-built records for each unit, including photos and redlines from the field.
Suggest changes
- Report what is slow, fragile, or hard to build, install or service, and propose specific fixes with their cost and time impact.
- Track recurring problems across units and sites so that fixes target root causes.
Design changes in CAD
- Model and detail parts, brackets, enclosures, cable routing and mounting hardware in 3D CAD, and produce drawings a vendor can build from.
- Prototype your designs, test-fit them on a real unit, and release them to suppliers.
- Design jigs and fixtures that shorten assembly and installation time.
What you bring
- An associate or bachelor's degree in mechanical, electromechanical or mechatronics engineering technology, or equivalent hands-on experience, professional or hobbyist.
- 3 or more years building, installing or servicing electromechanical equipment. Serious hobbyist experience counts: robotics, 3D printers, camera rigs or similar builds.
- Working proficiency in Autodesk Fusion, our CAD tool (experience in Solid Works, Onshape or similar transfers), including part and assembly modeling and manufacturing drawings.
- Ability to read and create engineering drawings, wiring diagrams and bills of materials.
- Skill with hand and power tools, fasteners and torque specifications, and low-voltage DC wiring: crimping, connectors, cable management and multimeter troubleshooting.
- Clear technical writing. You can write a work instruction that someone else can follow without calling you.
- Professional manner at customer sites. Our customers are clinicians and hospital facilities and IT staff.
- Willingness to travel within the U.S. for week-long installations (five planned in 2027), and a valid driver's license.
Nice to have
- Medical device experience under a quality system (ISO 13485 or FDA quality system requirements), including engineering change orders and device history records.
- Linear motion systems, gantries, and servo, stepper or strain wave gear motors.
- Cameras, lenses and lighting: optical alignment, focus and calibration.
- 3D printing, light machining, and design for manufacturing of sheet metal and machined parts.
- Experience working with contract manufacturers, including first-article inspection.
- Basic Linux command line and wired network setup for commissioning.
- Field service of capital equipment in hospitals or clinics.
Working conditions
- On-site bench and build work in Rockville, MD. This is not a remote role.
- Travel to clinics and hospitals for installations and service: one trip in December 2026 and five planned in 2027, about one week each.
- An installation week means full days on the clinic's schedule, which can include some early, late or weekend work.
- Regular lifting of up to 50 lb, ladder work, and mounting equipment to walls. The 200 lb scanner is moved and mounted as a two-person job.
Lumo Imaging will make reasonable accommodations for qualified candidates.
Compensation and how to apply
- Pay range: $25–45 per hour, depending on skill level
- Benefits and other compensation: Medical after going full-time
