Job SummaryThe Forklift Operator position is responsible for all activities associated with the movement and handling of materials related to the yard/shipping and warehouse department, including production department interactions. Responsible for computer system update transactions which account for all physical movement, consumption, and production of inventory. Responsible for physical counts of designated inventory items and cycle counts as defined and instructed.
Essential Functions- Move and store finished goods and raw materials, as well as load product per customer orders onto trucks.
- Remove finished goods and raw materials from or to production lines and locations in the warehouse.
- Assist in shipping and receiving as needed.
- Safely operate all material handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet movers.
- Maintain yard in an organized and neat manner with legible labels, good skids, and properly banded and wrapped skids.
- Scan and move finished goods one pallet at a time from inbound location to specified zones in yard; no yard storage in the designated staging areas by the dock.
- Stack skids neatly with space between rows to ensure label visibility for cycle counting and product identification; consolidate like items daily.
- Move pallets quickly and efficiently within the yard.
- Good understanding of forklift/pallet mover operation and all safety procedures.
- Good understanding of material handling within a yard/shipping and warehouse.
- Operate equipment emergency stops
- Obtain and maintain forklift operator certification
- Proper handling and inspection of forklifts
- Understand and follow all departmental safety rules
- Use of safety equipment: safety glasses, safety shoes, reflective vest/uniform
- Understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
- Be aware of ISO sections pertaining to the position.
- Sit-down forklift
- Hand tools, power tools, pallet strapping equipment
- Scanners
- Box cutters
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- At least one year of experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, or production facility
- At least one year of forklift experience and forklift certification
- Logistics or supply chain background preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Capacity to work overtime as needed
- Required to perform job duties in all weather conditions
- Good vision (with or without corrective lenses), central and peripheral vision in both eyes to detect objects or movement in the field of view
The physical demands and working conditions required to perform the essential job functions include: standing, sitting, walking, use of central and peripheral vision, and hearing (up to continuous); speaking/verbal communication; bending and stooping; twisting of neck and torso; reaching, holding, grasping, pushing, pulling, lifting/carrying raw materials, finished products, tools and machinery up to 50 pounds (frequently). Working indoors and outdoors with exposure to temperatures corresponding to outdoor seasonal weather, including rain, sleet, and snow, and both high and low temperatures.
