Buildings And Grounds Patrol Officer – Connecticut Veterans Affairs
Location:
287 West Street, Rocky Hill, CT.
Schedule:
Second Shift, Tuesday–Saturday 3:00 pm–11:00 pm. Full‑time, 40 hours per week.
- Guard entrances and exits to prevent trespassing, vandalism, theft of state and private property, and other violations.
- Perform vehicle and foot patrols of the DVA campus buildings, cemeteries, and other state locations.
- Monitor security and alarm systems, including multiple cameras, access‑control systems, and the fire‑alarm system, to detect and deter crime while maintaining safety and security.
- Enforce rules and regulations; assist patients, residents, staff, and visitors as needed.
- Provide security escorts and first‑aid assistance when necessary.
- Distribute and record incident reports; use radio communication systems in dispatching calls for service.
- Any experience or training that provides the skills and abilities required for the duties listed above.
- Valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
- Current Standard First Aid and/or CPR certification.
- Experience working in security or public safety, including vehicle and foot patrols and preventing trespassing.
- Experience writing incident reports and using dispatch/radio communication systems.
- Experience interacting with veterans, and with individuals with substance‑abuse, mental‑health, or anger issues.
- Possession and retention of a valid motor‑vehicle operator’s license.
- Possession and retention of a Standard First Aid Certificate and/or CPR certification.
- Good general health, free from disease or injury that would impair performance of duties; sufficient strength, stamina, agility, endurance, and visual and auditory acuity.
- Ability to pass a physical examination.
- Exposure to outdoors and to some danger of injury while walking and standing during foot patrol and guard duty.
