The State of Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs is hiring a Buildings And Grounds Lead Patrol Officer to support our skilled nursing facility. The role is supervisory and assures security, safety, and compliance across facilities.

• Ensure protection of state property against trespass, theft, or damage.
• Allocate patrol and duty assignment areas to personnel.
• Establish work schedules for staff.
• Inspect and evaluate performance of duties; ensure correction of negligence and report to supervision.
• Supervise enforcement of traffic and parking regulations.
• Maintain records and prepare incident and activity reports.
• Provide first aid when necessary and perform all duties of a Buildings and Grounds Patrol Officer as required.
• Perform related duties as required.

• Knowledge of state traffic and parking rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of traffic control techniques.
• Knowledge of physical plant security methods and techniques.
• Interpersonal skills.
• Oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Supervisory skill.

• Two (2) years of experience in the protection of persons or property or in the enforcement of security regulations.
• Two (2) years of experience as a Buildings and Grounds Patrol Officer or its equivalent may be substituted for the general experience.

• Experience supervising staff.
• Experience conducting investigations.
• Experience managing incident responses.
• Experience in conflict resolution.
• Experience following DVA Safety and Security Policy and Procedure.

• Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
• Standard First Aid certificate and/or CPR certification.

• General good health, free from disease or injury impeding job performance; sufficient strength, stamina, agility, endurance, visual and auditory acuity.
• May be required to pass a physical examination.

Incumbents may be exposed to the discomforts of working outdoors, prolonged walking and standing while on foot patrol and guard duty, and some danger of injury.
