The State of Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs is hiring a Buildings And Grounds Lead Patrol Officer to support our skilled nursing facility. The role is supervisory and assures security, safety, and compliance across facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Ensure protection of state property against trespass, theft, or damage.
- Allocate patrol and duty assignment areas to personnel.
- Establish work schedules for staff.
- Inspect and evaluate performance of duties; ensure correction of negligence and report to supervision.
- Supervise enforcement of traffic and parking regulations.
- Maintain records and prepare incident and activity reports.
- Provide first aid when necessary and perform all duties of a Buildings and Grounds Patrol Officer as required.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Knowledge of state traffic and parking rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of traffic control techniques.
- Knowledge of physical plant security methods and techniques.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Supervisory skill.
- Two (2) years of experience in the protection of persons or property or in the enforcement of security regulations.
- Two (2) years of experience as a Buildings and Grounds Patrol Officer or its equivalent may be substituted for the general experience.
- Experience supervising staff.
- Experience conducting investigations.
- Experience managing incident responses.
- Experience in conflict resolution.
- Experience following DVA Safety and Security Policy and Procedure.
- Possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
- Standard First Aid certificate and/or CPR certification.
- General good health, free from disease or injury impeding job performance; sufficient strength, stamina, agility, endurance, visual and auditory acuity.
- May be required to pass a physical examination.
Incumbents may be exposed to the discomforts of working outdoors, prolonged walking and standing while on foot patrol and guard duty, and some danger of injury.
