Field Technician

Job Description

Cable technicians work in homes and businesses to install and repair telecommunications cables—phones, internet, or cable television. They serve customers directly and provide excellent customer service while using diagnostic equipment to maintain and troubleshoot telecommunications equipment.

Technicians perform quality control inspections on installations and drive a company vehicle. A good driving record and the ability to operate a 28‑foot ladder (75 lbs) are required. Willingness to work early/late hours and maintain safe driving practices is essential.

• Service and troubleshoot cable products.
• Complete work orders and obtain proper signatures for accurate billing.
• Ensure all installation work meets quality standards.
• Report to dispatch per company procedures.
• Assist with work overflow.
• Follow all company policy and safety procedures.
• Perform installation work as required.
• Conduct quality control inspections on own work.
• Drive company vehicle responsibly.
• Install HSD/Cable/Phone services per work order.
• Communicate with supervisors and customers.
• Manage time effectively and meet scheduled time frames.

• Formal education and experience relevant to cable technician duties.
• Ability to apply common sense to follow written, oral, or diagram instructions.
• Strong problem‑solving skills with multiple concrete variables.
• Basic arithmetic skills for money, weight, volume, and distance.
• Reading, writing, and communication skills for clear correspondence.
• Customer‑service orientation and ability to handle difficult situations.
• Safety consciousness, including safe driving record.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, lift up to 75 lb, climb, and balance.
