Medical Technologist

The Med Technologist performs routine and complex laboratory tests ranging from waived to high complexity in one or more sections of the Clinical Laboratory. The Technologist participates in quality control, CAP surveys, methods and procedures development, and equipment inspections, calibrations, and maintenance.

• Investigates problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and/or workflow.
• May participate on teams or perform special projects/assignments.
• May participate in teaching Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents and training of new employees; may serve as a technical resource.
• Performs quality control and equipment maintenance in the appropriate laboratory.
• Performs routine and less standardized test procedures, including special chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests. Observes tests and reactions and provides data.
• Prepares specimens and reagents, solutions, heat, or filters as required.
• Reports results to healthcare providers and consults with providers regarding test results.
• Reviews test results to ensure accuracy of reports and timely correction of errors.

• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or a science related to clinical medicine.
• Registry (or eligibility) as a Medical Technologist via ASCP or NCA.
