About the Department:
The City of Rocky Mount Fire Department provides fire suppression, rescue and emergency medical services, hazardous materials mitigation, technical rescue, code enforcement, fire investigation, and public education. The department responds to emergencies 24/7 and maintains accredited status with CFAI (accredited in 2003, 2008, 2013, 2018, and 2024).
This position performs firefighting and emergency medical duties in response to fire, medical, and other emergency situations.
Reports ToThe Fire Captain assigns work; supervision includes spot-checks for compliance with procedures and final results.
Responsibilities- Respond to fires with appropriate firefighting techniques.
- Respond to emergency medical calls, perform patient assessments, follow protocols, and document patient care.
- Maintain firefighting and EMS certifications and participate in ongoing training.
- Assist with maintenance checks and inventories to ensure readiness of assigned apparatus.
- Maintain physical fitness and participate in public education on fire safety and prevention.
- Participate in hydrant maintenance, station maintenance, and grounds upkeep.
- Engage in continuing education activities and assist with engine company business inspections.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Must be 18 years of age on date of hire.
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited school.
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a physical agility test; vision 20/100 or better, corrected to 20/20.
- Criminal background check will be conducted on offer of employment.
- Must meet current NFPA/NCOEMS requirements and possess appropriate state EMS certification.
- Knowledge of emergency medical protocols, firefighting procedures, and related public safety standards is preferred.
Full-Time (Pay Range)
Firefighter / EMT: $54,943.92 - $82,415.88
Firefighter / Certified: $52,327.54 - $78,491.32
Firefighter / Cadet: $49,835.76 - $74,753.63
Part-Time (Pay Range)
Firefighter / Cadet: $17.00 per hour
Firefighter / Certified: $18.50 per hour
Firefighter / EMT I: $20.00 per hour
Additional InformationResponsibilities and qualifications apply to Firefighter/EMT, Firefighter Certified, and Firefighter Cadet positions. The incumbent(s) may be hired full-time or part-time based on department needs and candidate qualifications.
