SummaryThe Phlebotomist II performs venous and capillary collection of blood specimens for analysis. May perform EKGs, waived and moderately complex testing with supervision. May perform pre‑employment drug of abuse screens. Performs various support services for the laboratory as assigned. Monitors incomplete work lists on LIS throughout shift. May perform assay for ABG’s and CO₂ samples with appropriate supervision. The Phlebotomist II will have a certification in a phlebotomy registry.
Responsibilities- Consults/confers with healthcare providers/patients regarding patient care as it relates to phlebotomy service issues.
- Ensures quality and accuracy of work.
- Investigates problems with equipment, patient results, specimens and/or workflow.
- May participate on teams or perform special projects/assignments.
- May perform teaching and training of new employees, phlebotomy students and/or other healthcare providers.
- May review test results to ensure accuracy of reporting and timely correction of errors or report results to healthcare providers.
- Performs phlebotomy procedures, quality control and equipment maintenance in the appropriate laboratory.
- Responsible for and/or ensures completion of daily work and assigned tasks. Monitors daily operation of laboratory work area.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Graduate of an approved training program in Phlebotomy.
- Registered as a Phlebotomist through ASCP or ASPT.
