SummaryThe CRNA will employ multiple modalities, including regional anesthesia, MAC sedation, and general anesthesia, in the operating room to provide adequate analgesia and anesthesia during surgical procedures. The scope of practice is defined by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and the North Carolina Practice Act. Providers are accountable to the North Carolina Board of Nursing for practicing nursing within the scope of the North Carolina Nursing Practice Act.
Responsibilities- Performs pre‑anesthetic evaluations on patients utilizing established guidelines and administers appropriate pre‑operative medications. Consults with physicians as appropriate and ensures any patient/family questions or concerns are addressed.
- Verifies patient identity and correct procedure(s). Checks for appropriate physical status for anesthesia/analgesia, following through as warranted.
- Ensures that the anesthesia machine, breathing circuits, monitoring equipment, suction devices, and all other equipment used are fully operational prior to the scheduled procedure. Ensures availability of backup and emergency drugs on the anesthesia cart, including necessary equipment for their administration.
- Establishes and secures intravenous/intra‑arterial lines, and applies appropriate monitors based on patient needs and procedural requirements.
- Induces and maintains inhalation, intravenous, local, regional, and topical anesthesia commensurate with commonly used anesthetics and techniques, constantly monitoring drug effects and adjusting dosage to maintain optimal physiological function consistent with patient well‑being, safety, and procedural goals.
Masters in nursing and certificate graduate of an approved Nurse Anesthetist program.
Licensure / Certification RequirementsCert/Recert by the National Board of Certification & Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.
RN.
ACLS Certification.
PALS Certification.
BCLS certification.
CRNAs with required education and credentials are eligible to apply.
