Position: Electrical Project Designer I

The Project Designer I demonstrates the ability to perform a wide variety of technical assignments independently with little or no oversight for small, intermediate, or large projects. They complete all necessary tasks on assigned projects to ensure projects finish on time, within budget, and meet industry standards. The Project Designer I will continuously seek opportunities to learn and develop within the discipline with support from senior staff.

Responsibilities
  • Begin to take responsibility for project designs under the supervision of the Engineer of Record with oversight from senior staff.
  • Communicate design requirements and assist project managers with project coordination among architects, contractors, engineers, equipment manufacturers, and other team members to determine project scope, feasibility, and equipment needs. Provide operating procedures and technical information.
  • Attend and participate in owner, client, or architect meetings as needed. Visit project sites to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
  • Participate in client, company, and industry events to build and maintain professional relationships.
  • Maintain proficient understanding of industry standards and regulations.
  • Perform calculations, develop design approaches, create system layouts, detail drawings, schematics, and schedules using Revit, AutoCAD, or other software.
  • Model lighting systems, controls, circuiting, power systems, telecommunication, fire alarm, security, and lightning protection systems.
  • Develop panel loading, service loading, voltage drop, and fault current calculations.
  • Help prepare and modify studies, plans, reports, specifications, and project designs.
  • Review work for technical accuracy and completeness before final QA/QC.
  • Review shop drawings and equipment submittals for conformance to plans and specifications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Position Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and at least 5 years of relevant experience, or 7 years of relevant design experience without a degree.
  • Master's degree can substitute up to 1 year of work experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering design, industry standards, and codes.
  • Completion of Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) and certification as an Engineering in Training (EIT) is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit, Visual Lighting, SKM Power Tools, and Blue Beam Revu.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% as directed by supervisor.
