Indirect Tax - Sales & Use Lookback Review COE Manager – EY

EY’s Sales and Use Tax Lookback Review Center of Excellence (COE) leads large multi‑state sales and use tax recovery projects for our largest clients. As a Sales and Use Tax Manager, you will develop and apply deep technical knowledge in a variety of projects across multiple industries, working closely with colleagues and clients to provide reliable, up‑to‑date tax advice.
Key Responsibilities- Research client business operations and build long‑lasting relationships
- Identify applicable sales and use tax exemptions and exclusions
- Discover potential over payment opportunities or risks and communicate findings to clients
- Monitor current tax law changes to maintain credibility as a trusted advisor
- Develop clear, intelligent plans and approaches for sales and use tax recoveries
- Prepare and defend sales and use tax refund claims
- Participate in a motivated team of professionals
- Manage a motivated team, ensuring they have the skills and opportunities to reach their full potential

Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline
- Professional knowledge of sales and use tax processes, concepts, and tools
- Experience managing budgets, people, and projects
- Proven record of excellence in a professional services or tax organization
- Technical writing and research experience in a tax context
- Ability to prioritize multiple complex projects
- Strong influencing skills and confidence to question existing processes
- Willingness to travel as needed
- Achieved CPA qualification, or certification as a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, CMI designation, or state bar membership

What We Offer You- Comprehensive compensation and benefits package: base salary range $105,100 – $192,600 (US); $126,100 – $218,900 for NYC metro, Washington State, and California (excluding Sacramento). Total Rewards include medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and paid time off.
- Hybrid work model: 40–60% in‑person for most external client‑serving roles.
