Patient Care Tech; PCT - Emergency Dept

Overview

Under the direction of the RN or LPN, assists in the individualized care of the patient to achieve the patient's highest level of wellness. Works cooperatively with others as part of a team; recognizes the importance of group goals. Performs designated clinical procedures and non-clinical support tasks essential to providing care to the patient.

• Assist in the individualized care of patients under the direction of a registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN).
• Perform designated clinical procedures and non-clinical tasks essential to patient care.
• Work cooperatively as part of a care team to support patient wellness goals.

• Education:
  
  High school diploma, GED, CNA/CPCT or enrollment in a healthcare career program through high school curriculum, and/or current co-worker of Mercy.
• Licensure:
  None required at start; training and certification per state requirements apply as described below.
• Experience:
  
  None required.
• In the state of practice:
  Mercy provides a required 175-hour training program for new hires without prior experience, completed as part of new hire orientation within 90 days to remain in the PCT position per state guidelines.
• Certifications:
  
  BLS required within one month of hire; completion of PCT competencies within 3 months of hire.
• Other:
  Minimum physical requirements include the ability to push/pull/lift 50 pounds on a regular basis; prolonged standing and walking; ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat.
• Preferred Experience:
  
  EMT, Paramedic or previous patient care experience.
• Preferred
  
  Certifications:
  
  CNA, EMT, Advanced Unlicensed Assistant (AUA) in the state of practice, Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT).
