Metrology Specialist I or II
Brewer Science, Inc. is a major innovator of high‑technology solutions for the semiconductor / microelectronics markets. We are currently seeking a purpose‑driven candidate with an ownership mentality to fill an open position as a Metrology Specialist I or II. This position will be located in Rolla, MO.
Summary: Metrology Specialists are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and precision of measurement processes and equipment within the organization by developing and administering company‑wide metrology programs. They also play a crucial role in maintaining quality standards, ensuring compliance with regulations, and enhancing operational efficiency through expertise in metrology.
Responsibilities- Metrology Specialist I
- Perform calibrations and routine maintenance on a wide variety of measurement instruments (e.g., pH meters, balances, temperature sensors, spectrometers), ensuring compliance with internal procedures and industry standards.
- Assist in developing and refining calibration techniques, working under the guidance of senior team members.
- Evaluate measurement systems for basic performance metrics such as repeatability and reproducibility.
- Document calibration activities, MSA data, and measurement discrepancies in accordance with company protocols.
- Participate in investigations of out‑of‑tolerance instruments and assist in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with production and quality teams to support measurement needs in daily operations.
- Assist in implementing changes to metrology procedures and test methods.
- Stay current on metrology basics and foundational measurement science principles.
- Support audits by maintaining well‑organized and accessible calibration records.
- Develop an understanding of how metrology impacts process control, product quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Metrology Specialist II
- Same duties as Metrology Specialist I.
- Lead calibration, troubleshooting, and performance verification of intermediate to advanced measurement systems.
- Develop calibration procedures tailored to specific instruments, based on manufacturer specifications, industry standards, and internal needs.
- Perform Measurement System Analysis (MSA), including Gage R&R studies, bias and linearity assessments, and uncertainty evaluations.
- Investigate metrology‑related quality issues and support cross‑functional teams in root cause identification and resolution.
- Evaluate metrology performance data to recommend actions that improve system reliability and reduce uncertainty.
- Support internal and external audits by presenting calibration documentation, standards traceability, and metrology records.
- Contribute to internal training by developing reference guides, job aids, and procedural walk‑throughs for the team.
- Participate in cross‑functional teams to ensure measurement systems are integrated correctly during product development or process changes.
- Propose and pilot improvements to instrument lifecycle management, including procurement, calibration scheduling, and retirement planning.
- Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
- Associates degree in a relevant technical field and 4+ years of related experience
- Bachelor’s degree (or related field) and 2+ years of related experience
- Minimum 6 years of experience in metrology or a related field
- An equivalent combination of education and experience
- Certification(s) in metrology (e.g., CMSC, ASQ-CQT) preferred but not required.
