Job Purpose and Summary

Within our Retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians play a critical role in supporting our pharmacy teams to consistently deliver on our brand promise. Technicians are often the first point of contact for patients and customers, delivering an exceptional experience, ensuring prescriptions are filled promptly, safely and accurately, and providing caring service that exceeds expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Live our purpose by following all company SOPs at each workstation to help our Pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
  • Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each pharmacy workstation (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, drop‑off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care: creating heartfelt moments while serving patients at pick‑up, drive‑thru, and over the phone; offering immunizations and other services; and demonstrating compassionate care by solving or escalating patient problems.
  • Complete basic inventory activities such as accurately putting away medication deliveries, cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, and waiting bin inventories.
  • Contribute to a high‑performing team, embrace a growth mindset and seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge.
  • Remain flexible for both scheduling and business needs, and voluntarily travel to stores in the market as required.
  • Understand and comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles; comply with CVS policies and procedures to ensure patient safety and privacy.
  • Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, and voluntarily staffing off‑site clinics) where allowed by law and supported by required training and certification.
Immunization Responsibilities (if applicable)
  • Complete additional licensure and training requirements to obtain Technician Immunizer status.
  • Educate patients about the importance of vaccines and refer vaccination questions to the Pharmacist‑on‑duty.
  • Monitor and respond to adverse reactions; report adverse reaction events per public health requirements.
  • Collect and document patient information for each applicable patient.
  • Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.
Required Qualifications
  • Comply with any state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy (age, education, licensure, certification).
  • Minimum age of 16 years if not specified by state regulations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or active enrollment in high school or a high school equivalency program if not specified by state regulations.
  • State‑level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state;  to learn more.
Essential Functions
  • Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe.
  • Attention and Focus
    • Concentrate on a task over time and pivot quickly from one task to another.
    • Confirm prescription information and label accuracy to ensure patient safety.

    • Actively help people in a friendly manner.
    • Notice and understand patients’ reactions and respond appropriately.
  • Communication Skills
    • Use and understand verbal and written communication with patients and colleagues.
    • Practice active listening, ask questions, and avoid interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Mathematical Reasoning
    • Use math to solve problems such as determining the total number of tablets to dispense and calculating day’s supply.
  • Problem Resolution
    • Identify challenging interactions and choose the best course of action.
  • Physical Demands
    • Be mobile and remain upright for extended periods.
    • Lift, scan, and bag items; reach overhead; stretch or reach out with the body, arms, and/or legs.
    • Move fingers repetitively; pick, pinch, type, or otherwise work primarily with fingers.
