• The Diet Clerk is responsible for ensuring that all patients receive timely screenings, appropriate diet information, plus selective menus for patient meal choices based on their prescribed diet order, completing appropriate paperwork to ensure the correct food items are delivered, and checking the patient tray line at meal periods for tray accuracy.

• Communicates problems with patient diets, meal selections, and dietary concerns that may affect nutritional adequacy.
• Performs administrative tasks related to maintaining patient menus, nutritional analysis, dietary allergies, food selections, snacks, and diet orders for accuracy.
• Communicates with patients or nursing staff regarding questions about diet understanding or modifications.
• Ensures food temperatures are taken before service and checks tray accuracy of diet orders.
• Passes patient trays at meal times.
• Prepares and delivers snacks for patients.
• Communicates with dietitians regarding patient or diet concerns.

• High school education or equivalent preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

• Six months experience in Healthcare Food Services preferred.

• Require considerable mental concentration for repetitive duties over long periods; long periods of standing and walking; ability to read and write; ability to learn procedures related to patient feeding and diet modifications; ability to lift a minimum of 30 lbs during a shift.

• Shares office and desk space with other Food Service Personnel; office area may be warm due to small size and crowded conditions.
• May encounter unpleasant conditions in patient care areas; potential exposure to infectious diseases and bodily fluids.
• Experiences heat and noise from the kitchen during tray line; wet floors and exposure to hot steam, water, chemicals, glass breakage, and sharp knives in food production areas.
• May experience noise in crowded work conditions, patient rooms, and nursing stations.
