General SummaryThe Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct patient care using the nursing process, demonstrating clinical competence relevant to the area of nursing practice, and adhering to the ANA Code of Ethics.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Follows established hospital policy regarding patient safety measures such as infection prevention, safe patient handling and movement, critical lab notification, etc.; maintains central lines and prevents surgical site infections per policy.
- Provides quality nursing care including administration of medications, nursing intervention, and patient and family teaching within guidelines established in hospital policy and procedure to support quality outcomes and patient safety.
- Performs initial and ongoing assessments in all aspects of patient care to monitor status, improve quality, enhance patient safety, and to provide accurate information to the health‑care team.
- Documents all patient care activities and required quality monitoring items to comply with established quality measures and support clinical decision making.
- Communicates patient information to physicians and appropriate team members to improve outcomes; delegates as appropriate while maintaining a team‑work and accountability atmosphere.
- Communicates with patient and family members in a timely manner to enhance the patient experience and provide education to support health‑care outcomes.
- Demonstrates critical thinking in nursing practice and seeks to develop skills and abilities through continuing education.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
- One year experience preferred.
- Current RN license in the State of Missouri or Compact Licensure.
- Graduate nurses (GNs) must obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
Physical Requirements
- Considerable mental concentration required. Lifting up to 35 lbs., turning activities, standing, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, reaching, and nearly constant walking required.
- Frequent exposure to infectious disease and communicable disease via blood and other bodily fluids. May encounter hostile persons at times.
