General SummaryThe Cardiac Cath Lab Registered Nurse provides direct patient care to individuals, using nursing knowledge and skills through the nursing process. The RN functions independently within scope of practice under the Missouri Board of Nursing and practices under the Missouri Nurse Practice Act and hospital policies and procedures.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Follow established hospital policy regarding patient safety measures such as infection prevention, safe patient handling, and critical lab notification to ensure safe care.
- Provide quality nursing care including medication administration, nursing interventions, and patient and family teaching within hospital policy guidelines.
- Offer conscious sedation, peri‑procedural pharmacologic agents, and emergent medications safely and as needed.
- Perform initial and ongoing assessments, monitor patient status, and provide accurate information to the healthcare team.
- Document accurately all patient care activities and required quality monitoring items to comply with established quality measures.
- Communicate pertinent patient information to physicians, team members, patient, and family to improve outcomes and promote learning.
- Delegate appropriately to team members while fostering teamwork and accountability.
- Document procedures within the Hemodynamic unit, including vital signs, cardiac rhythm, medications, and supplies used, and analyze hemodynamic wave‑forms and data recorded during cath‑lab procedures.
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
Work ExperienceOne year critical care or equivalent nursing experience required. Interventional Cardiac Cath Lab experience helpful.
Certification / LicenseCurrent RN license in the State of Missouri or Compact Licensure. BLS and ACLS through the American Heart Association required.
Mental /Physical Requirements
Considerable mental concentration required. Duties involve frequent heavy lifting, extended standing, and wearing lead aprons. Must be physically able to perform CPR, pull sheaths, and apply pressure to the groin for prolonged periods.
Working ConditionsThe employee must wear full lead attire for long periods, and may have frequent exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, radiation, and hostile situations. Must function under stress and lift up to 35 lbs.
