The Critical Care Float Nurse (RN) provides direct patient care using the nursing process, demonstrates clinical competence relevant to the area of nursing practice, and adheres to the ANA Code of Ethics. The role involves caring across multiple critical care units—including the ICU and Emergency Department—and floating to medical‑surgical units such as Acute Medical, Oncology, Orthopedics, SSU, Acute Rehab, and Transitional Care Facility as needed.

• Follow established hospital policies regarding patient safety measures such as infection prevention, safe patient handling, critical lab notification, and other procedures.
• Provide quality nursing care including medication administration, nursing interventions, and patient/family education within hospital guidelines.
• Perform initial and ongoing assessments in all aspects of patient care to monitor status, improve quality, enhance safety, and provide accurate information to the health‑care team.
• Document all patient‑care activities and required quality monitoring items to comply with quality measures and support clinical decision making.
• Communicate patient information to physicians and team members to improve outcomes, delegate appropriately, and foster teamwork and accountability.
• Communicate with patients and family members in a timely manner to enhance experience and provide education to support health‑care outcomes.
• Demonstrate critical thinking and pursue skill development through continuing education.

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

• One year experience preferred.

• Current RN license in the State of Missouri or Compact Licensure.
• Graduate nurses must obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
• American Heart Association Advanced Life Support (ACLS).
• American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
• NIHSS certification.

• Considerable mental concentration required. Ability to lift up to 35 lbs., turn, stand, carry, push, pull, stoop, crouch, twist, reach, and walk constantly.

• Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases via blood and other bodily fluids. May encounter hostile persons at times.
