Responsibilities
- Conduct daily child health observation to determine child health status or injuries for children boarding the bus.
- Obtain and secure child medications for proper pickup and delivery utilizing safe handling procedures and documenting such activities appropriately.
- Responsible for the safety and supervision of children during transportation, including securing children properly in appropriate child safety restraints prior to departure, monitoring them to remain secured throughout transportation, securing “Red Bags,” and handling loading/unloading of children from the bus per Transportation policies and procedures.
- Assist bus driver during emergencies and evacuation drills; ensure vehicle is maintained in a sanitary condition.
- Implement, monitor, and ensure compliance of bus rules during transportation; provide educational activities as part of school readiness efforts and give feedback to teaching/coordinating staff on observed behaviors/development.
- Act as liaison between parents and center staff regarding center activities, child issues, and upcoming program events per PFCE Framework.
- Provide child engagement through activities such as singing, fingerplays, stories, and positive conversations per HSELOF.
- Ensure all children are properly released from the bus to the parent, guardian, or designated person as documented in the child’s file.
- Provide short‑term relief to classroom staff when supervised by a qualified teacher, contingent on prior training and qualifications.
- Provide interpretation services in classroom, coverage, home visits, and parent/teacher conferences as needed.
- Assist in maintaining staff/child ratios in classrooms, kitchen duties, or other areas when needed; contingent on prior training and qualifications.
- Assist driver/janitor in cleaning and maintaining building and playground as needed.
- Transport and assist with supervision of children and parents during parent meetings, field trips, health clinic visits and other assignments.
- Participate in training for serving children with disabilities or special needs, e.g., wheelchairs, special car seats, allergies, in accordance with IEP or IFSP.
- Assist in ongoing recruitment plan activities, including recruitment of children with disabilities.
- Provide support or TA to other locations (centers) with some travel requirements.
- Attend all staff meetings, trainings, and other program activities as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Be 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED (dependent on each state’s childcare licensing requirements).
- A CDA credential is preferred and/or must enroll in the CDA for classroom coverage.
- Ability to work irregular and flexible hours.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred – both oral and written.
- Have dependable transportation to and from work.

Physical Demands- Required to stand, walk, sit, and bend.

Employment with UMOS is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check prior to employment. Must complete a physical exam, SIDS & Shaken Baby Training, Fire Extinguisher Training, Infant/Child CPR and First Aid on hire or prior to transporting children, TB test screening within 30 days of employment, and subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
