Major Responsibilities- Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient. Refers and questions orders to the Radiologist before performing exam. Contacts ordering provider when there are discrepancies.
- Properly identify (using two patient identifiers) and assist patients while offering a brief explanation of the procedures. Prepares patients for the procedure with a full explanation and documents on appropriate worksheets.
- Interviews patients for a complete medical history. Reviews in-patients, ER, and outpatients EMRs to obtain pertinent clinical history. Records medical history on requisitions. Correlates other test results and laboratory data with the exam being performed.
- Assumes responsibility for the exam from beginning to end, including the completion of dictated results.
- Prepares and administers IV contrast according to departmental protocols. Records contrast type and amount on request.
- Evaluates the technical quality of images and consults with a Radiologist if needed. Recognizes abnormal anatomy and processes additional, reconstructed images, and measurements as instructed.
- Performs basic patient care functions, informs nursing personnel of changes in patient condition, initiates life support measures when necessary, and assists in ‘code blue’ procedures during emergencies.
- Performs CT scanning and assists Radiologist/PA during invasive procedures, practicing sterile technique and following infection control policies.
- Is authorized to obtain medication or contrast material as directed by a licensed practitioner.
- Practices radiation safety, reports malfunctioning equipment, and maintains knowledge and skills to work safely in a blood borne pathogens and infectious disease environment.
- Adheres to hospital fire and safety procedures, attends all safety training, and performs work accurately and promptly during crises. Rotates shifts including call back, holidays, and weekends, adhering to attendance policies.
- Operates radiology computer systems, documents contrast administration, maintains a neat work area, and assists other medical personnel as needed.
Job Requirements Education
Graduate of an accredited institution recognized by ARRT in Radiologic Technology.
Certification / LicenseARRT certification in Radiology or NMTCB for Nuclear Medicine, and advanced registry in CT from ARRT within one year of hire. Current CPR certification required.

Physical Requirements and Working ConditionsRequires moderate to heavy effort in lifting/moving patients, equipment, and supplies. Occasional standing, walking, sitting; frequent stretching, bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling; exposure to physical conditions like walking on hard surfaces, stairs, and moving equipment. Must follow radiation safety guidelines.
