Your Job

Georgia‑Pacific is seeking a Multicraft Maintenance Technician for our Rome, GA Lumber facility. This role supports safe, reliable, and efficient operations by applying mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, performing equipment repairs and upgrades, and helping improve reliability across the mill. Our ideal candidate is a self‑driven technician with demonstrated experience across multiple trades—including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

Salary:
  • Starting pay ranges from $26.94/hr to $34.69/hr
    , based on experience.
  • Additional skill‑based pay increases are available as you demonstrate capability and contribution to mill performance.
Shift:
  • Candidates must be able to work any shift
    , including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • 12‑hour shifts
    , rotating 8 days on / 6 days off.
  • Orientation schedule:
    Monday‑Friday, 8:00 a.m.

    -5:00 p.m.
    , then transition to assigned shift.

What You Will Do
  • Follow all plant safety and environmental policies and actively participate in safety initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues to improve equipment uptime.
  • Perform preventive, predictive, and reliability‑centered maintenance
    , including inspections, lubrication, and precision adjustments.
  • Install and repair mechanical systems including gearboxes, bearings, motors, couplings, chains, belts, sprockets, and conveyors
    .
  • Diagnose and repair electrical systems
    , including motors, switches, sensors, limit switches, VFDs, and basic control circuits.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems
    , pumps, valves, actuators, and controls.
  • Utilize welding, cutting, and pipe fitting skills for equipment repair and installation.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to prioritize maintenance needs and support machine startups, shutdowns, and cleanups.
  • Use CMMS software to document work, create work orders, and research parts.
  • Provide clear written and verbal communication regarding equipment status and completed work.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Industrial maintenance experience performing installation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair
    .
  • Hands‑on experience with mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic
    , and basic electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals
    .
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Associate degree or higher in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or related field,
    OR 3+ years of equivalent manufacturing maintenance experience.
  • Experience with multicraft maintenance
    , including mechanical systems, electrical troubleshooting, hydraulic and pneumatic components, and welding/fabrication.
  • Strong working knowledge of precision alignment
    , lubrication systems, pumps, motors, and conveyor systems.
  • Experience using CMMS for PMs, repairs, and parts research.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks including climbing ladders and working at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Ability to work in a sawmill environment with dust, noise, heat, and cold conditions.
