Equipment Operator IV, Corrections

We are looking for aEquipment Operator IV, Corrections.

The purpose of this classification is to manage work crews that may contain inmates, truck drivers or others. Operate various heavy equipment and perform manual work functions associated with the construction, repair and maintenance of the County Road systems or trash compaction, solid waste coverage, and landfill operations.

• Performs driving functions in a safe and efficient manner or operates a variety of varied purpose equipment in the construction, maintenance and repair of County roads and related systems, or dump truck, roll-off garbage truck , tandem truck, end loader truck, back hoe, track hoe, tar truck, water truck, spreader gate truck, roller, scraper, screed, excavator, motor grader, dozer, packer, mower, bucket truck, fuel pump, chain saw, air compressor, jack hammer, pressure washer, etc.
• Performs daily preventive maintenance work on equipment and vehicles; services and makes minor repairs to equipment and vehicles.
• Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information; takes and relays messages; responds to requests for service.
• Adheres to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; flags and directs traffic and places markers, signs and cones around project/work site to ensure safety of crew and the traveling public; and follows safety practices and wears protective gear.

High school diploma or equivalent, and two years of experience in equipment operation; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License. Successfully complete Basic Correctional Officer Training (B.C.O.T.) within twelve (12) months of hire.
