Job Title:
Site Safety & Health Officer L1 SSHO
Location:
NAS Sigonella
Scope: Dedicated safety professional responsible for all accident prevention, risk management, and compliance.
Duties
Prepares, updates, and enforces the Accident Prevention Plan (APP).
Conducts daily safety inspections of worksites and enforces controls.
Provides immediate correction and stop-work authority in unsafe conditions.
Ensures compliance with U.S. and Italian safety laws, NAVFAC, and DoD requirements.
Maintains safety logs, incident reports, and OSHA/DOL reporting.
Leads Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs).
Conducts toolbox safety meetings and coordinates refresher training.
Investigates accidents and near misses, identifies root causes, and recommends corrective actions.
Interfaces with the Government Safety Office, providing reports and participating in safety councils.
Mandatory Experience & Certifications
Level 1 SSHO training and qualifications per EM 385-1-1.
Continuous learning compliance with EM 385-1-1.
Preferred / Desirable Certifications
OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety.
BCSP CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician).
CSP (Certified Safety Professional).
