The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures of the University of Verona invites scholars to present expressions of interest in applying jointly with Jacopo Saturno for a Marie Skłodowska‑Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship (MSCA‑PF) on Second Language Acquisition, preferably in relation to Slavic languages.
Applications are solicited on any domain of Second Language Acquisition, particularly in relation to Slavic languages. The host’s expertise lies primarily on the following topics: development of nominal morphology (inflectional and derivational), the role of input (usage‑based approaches), first‑exposure studies, and cross‑linguistic influence. Particular attention is paid to the disentanglement of transfer effects from universal acquisitional tendencies. In terms of methodology, Jacopo Saturno favours structured experimental protocols.
Over time he has developed an interest and some skills in statistics, with particular reference to the Bayesian approach to statistical inference.
The Slavic Linguistics group within the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures is a young, enthusiastic team focusing on Second Language Acquisition, Language teaching, Multilingualism/Plurilingualism, Language policy, Pragmatics, and Intercomprehension.
Candidates will receive academic and administrative support from the Department and the University of Verona Grant Office for proposal preparation.
Eligibility
Candidates must be eligible according to the criteria established by the 2026 MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship call:
To have a PhD at the call)
To have up to 8 years research experience after PhD
To be citizens of an EU State, or of an Associated Country or a long‑term resident in Europe (only for Global Fellowship)
Not to have resided or carried their main activity in Italy for more than 12 months in the 36 months before the call) – for European Fellowship
Not to have resided or carried their main activity in the host country for more than 12 months in the 36 months before the call) – for a Global Fellowship
Besides, candidates should be fluent in English, demonstrate an excellent teamwork attitude, organizational skills, and ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
