If you're passionate about Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC), Attitude and Orbit Control Systems (AOCS), and solving complex technical challenges, this role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge space programmes from concept through to in-orbit operations.
Location:
Turin, Italy Position:
Full-time | Permanent The Opportunity As a Senior AOCS Engineer, you'll play a key role in the design, development, integration and qualification of Attitude Determination & Control Systems (ADCS) and spacecraft propulsion systems across a range of innovative satellite missions.
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you'll take technical ownership of the AOCS suite throughout the complete mission lifecycle - from early concept studies through spacecraft integration, testing, launch and in-flight operations. You'll collaborate closely with systems, software, avionics, propulsion and mission engineering teams to deliver high-performance spacecraft solutions.
This is an excellent opportunity to join an organisation investing heavily in engineering excellence and innovation, where you'll have genuine influence over mission design while contributing to technically ambitious space programmes.
As the Senior AOCS Engineer, you'll be responsible for:
Leading the technical development of the spacecraft AOCS suite (ADCS and propulsion) throughout all mission phases, from concept design to in-orbit operations.
Developing and analysing Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) models, simulations and performance analyses.
Performing trade studies, subsystem sizing and architecture selection for attitude control and propulsion systems.
Defining spacecraft GNC architectures to meet demanding mission requirements.
Managing critical system budgets including pointing accuracy, momentum management and delta-V.Working closely with multidisciplinary project teams to ensure successful subsystem integration and mission delivery.
Managing technical interfaces with external suppliers and partners while leading design reviews and technical meetings.
Producing system engineering documentation, verification plans and customer-facing technical reports.
Supporting Assembly, Integration, Verification and Qualification (AIT/AIV) activities, including functional, environmental and spacecraft qualification testing.
Supporting quality assurance, configuration control and technical review processes throughout the programme lifecycle.
We're looking for an experienced spacecraft systems engineer with strong expertise in AOCS and GNC who enjoys solving complex technical challenges within a collaborative engineering environment.
You'll ideally have:
A Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Space Engineering or a related discipline.
At least five years' experience in AOCS, GNC or spacecraft systems engineering, ideally within the space sector.
Strong understanding of spacecraft sensors, actuators and propulsion technologies, including chemical, cold gas and electric propulsion.
Excellent knowledge of spacecraft dynamics, orbital mechanics and pointing performance analysis.
Experience developing AOCS simulators, system analyses and momentum management strategies.
Practical experience integrating AOCS/GNC solutions into spacecraft architectures.
Familiarity with ECSS standards and spacecraft development life cycles.
Experience supporting spacecraft integration, environmental testing and qualification campaigns.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and international engineering teams.
Professional proficiency in English.
Experience in any of the following would be highly advantageous:
End-to-end implementation of AOCS solutions through to in-orbit operations.
Proximity operations or rendezvous missions.
ESA project reviews and customer-facing technical presentations.
Real-time spacecraft operations, commissioning and AOCS manoeuvre execution.
GNC algorithm development, including navigation filters, guidance strategies and control systems.
Fault Detection, Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) design.
MATLAB, Simulink, Python and C/C++ programming.
