Overview
Energy Jobline is supporting a major international energy infrastructure programme and is seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer – Instrumentation to support the commissioning and start‑up of instrumentation and control systems across complex energy facilities.
The role will ensure instrumentation systems and field devices are tested, validated, and ready for safe operational handover in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
The Role
Reporting to the Hook‑up & Commissioning SPT, the Commissioning Engineer – Instrumentation will support pre‑commissioning, commissioning, and start‑up activities for instrumentation and control systems.
Working closely with engineering, construction, and operations teams, the role will ensure instrumentation systems are installed, tested, and commissioned in line with project design requirements and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Review engineering documentation including P&IDs, loop diagrams, instrument hook‑up drawings, and datasheets
Develop and implement commissioning procedures and inspection test plans for instrumentation systems
Lead loop checks, point‑to‑point wiring verification, calibration, and functional testing of instrumentation devices
Support commissioning of field transmitters, control valves, safety systems, fire & gas systems, and control system interfaces
Coordinate with construction, quality, electrical, and process teams to ensure systems are ready for commissioning
Interface with vendors during equipment commissioning and troubleshooting activities
Manage commissioning documentation including loop folders, punch lists, and red‑line markups
Ensure instrumentation systems comply with project specifications and relevant industry standards
Support dynamic commissioning and initial start‑up of plant systems
Maintain records of commissioning activities and prepare documentation for final system handover
Skills & Experience
Strong technical knowledge of industrial instrumentation and control systems
Experience commissioning instrumentation systems within oil & gas, energy, or industrial facilities
Ability to interpret technical drawings, loop diagrams, and engineering documentation
Experience coordinating technicians, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary teams during commissioning
Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills within operational environments
Effective communication and coordination abilities
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Automation, or Instrumentation Engineering
Minimum 8 years’ experience in instrumentation commissioning within energy or industrial projects
Experience supporting commissioning and start‑up of large‑scale process facilities
Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
Additional Information
The advertised day rate applies to independent consultants operating on a contract basis. Candidates who prefer to be engaged as employees of the client may be offered a different remuneration structure.
