Disability Inclusion Officer

Organizational context:
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian organization, dedicated to saving lives and building a pathway to peace and prosperity. WFP operates in challenging contexts, requiring specialized skills in areas like humanitarian access, protection, and accountability to affected populations. The Gender, Protection, and Inclusion (GPI) team at WFP Headquarters supports the integration of these considerations across all WFP policies, programmes, and operations.

Job purpose:

The Disability Inclusion Officer will play a crucial role in strengthening WFP's commitment to disability inclusion across its global operations. This position involves leading engagement with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs), developing and updating guidelines to ensure accessibility and inclusiveness, and streamlining consultation processes. The officer will also provide technical assistance on accessibility for built environments and ICT, support Country Offices in developing and managing disability inclusion work plans, and contribute to the mainstreaming of disability inclusion throughout WFP's strategic planning and reporting.

Furthermore, the role will involve providing technical support to Human Resources on reasonable accommodation and embedding disability inclusion throughout the recruitment cycle to enhance the employment of persons with disabilities within WFP.
Responsibilities:
The Disability Inclusion Officer at the World Food Programme (WFP) plays a crucial role in ensuring that WFP's operations and policies are inclusive of persons with disabilities. This involves leading engagement with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) globally and regionally, fostering mutually beneficial partnerships, and updating guidelines to ensure accessibility and representation. The role also focuses on promoting accessibility within WFP's physical environments and digital platforms, including ICT systems and conference services.

Furthermore, the officer provides technical assistance and capacity building to country offices and regional hubs, supporting the mainstreaming of disability inclusion into strategic plans and reporting. This includes guidance on policy and technical areas, particularly in relation to the UN Disability Inclusion Strategy (UNDIS 2.0). A key responsibility is supporting People Operations/Human Resources by providing technical input on reasonable accommodation, embedding disability inclusion into the recruitment cycle, and enhancing practices for the employment and career development of persons with disabilities.

The role requires developing accessible training materials and contributing to future disability inclusion strategies, ultimately aiming to integrate disability inclusion across all aspects of WFP's work to save and change lives.

Education:

A Masters degree is required in social sciences, development studies, international relations, sociology, or another relevant field.

Work experience:

Requires at least six years of progressively responsible professional experience in development projects or humanitarian assistance, with a minimum of two years specifically dedicated to disability inclusion. Demonstrated field and policy-oriented experience in disability inclusion is essential. Experience in operational research and program design within relevant areas is desirable.
