Description - Call for Expression of Interest for a joint application under the upcoming Call for MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026
University of Genoa, UNIGE, located in Genoa, ITALY, welcomes postdoctoral researchers of any nationality, with an excellent track record, to apply to the European Commission Marie Sklodowska‑Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships 2026. Our University has been beneficiary of several MSCA‑PF in Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe.
The Marie Sklodowska Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship is one of the funding schemes of the European Commission’s Horizon Europe Research & Innovation programme, dedicated to excellent research promoting international mobility, as well as interdisciplinary and intersect oral exchanges.
MSCA fellowship grant provides a competitive salary plus mobility and family allowances if applicable, as well as a contribution to cover research, training and networking costs. The research projects will have 2‑ or 3‑years duration.
Selected candidates will be provided with special support for proposal writing and development.
The University of Genoa will organize in May the fifth edition of the Masterclass MSCAected candidate researchers will have the opportunity to attend a 2‑days online intensive training and coaching course on how to write a successful proposal. This masterclass is a pathway of support to candidates and their supervisors in preparing project proposals, including prescreening activity of the draft proposals and the organisation of dedicated B2B meetings, by the European Research Office of Uni Ge, National Contact Point and other experts.
The masterclass will take place in May 2026.
MSCA domain:
Information Science and Engineering (ENG);
Life Sciences (LIF)
Research Project Description
The main thematic area for candidatures is healthcare simulation. Particular studies investigate how technology can improve medical training, preoperative planning and surgical education. This may include:
Design and development of new medical simulator prototypes, starting from a medical or educational need;
The assessment of how different technologies (e.g., immersive technologies, low‑cost electronics, 3‑D models, visuo‑haptic modelling, Artificial Intelligence) enhance medical and surgical training, in order to select the optimal technology for different medical skills and procedures to be learned;
The analysis of medical and surgical learning processes, by looking at behavioural, performance and physiological parameters.
Research Group
The fellow will be involved in the Joint lab for Emerging Technologies in Simulation (JETS), a joint lab between the Department of Informatics, Bioengineering, Robotics and Systems engineering (DIBRIS) and the Simulation and Advanced Education Center of the University of Genova (Uni Ge), Italy.
DIBRIS is a structure where research and education are based on the areas of Computer Science and Technology, Bioengineering, Robotics and Systems Engineering. It includes, among others, the bioengineering group which shares resources on biomedical robotics projects. It has an established experience in human motor‑control, neuroengineering, physiological signals analysis (i.e., EEG, electromyography – EMG, eye movements), and use of new technologies (i.e., Virtual Reality – VR, visuo‑haptic modelling, simulation‑based approaches) for learning and perception.
Within the bioengineering group, the JETS lab focuses on:
Design and Development of medical simulator’s prototypes
Promote the use of technologies (i.e., Virtual Reality, Mixed Reality, 3‑D Printing, visuo‑haptic modelling, low‑cost electronics) in healthcare simulation
Investigate medical and surgical learning with physiological data
Perform efficacy studies assessing the validity of new solutions for medical education
Currently, the lab research lines are focused on three main domains:
Surgical training and pre‑operative planning;
Use of immersive technologies to train procedural and non‑technical skills in critical care;
Maternal and perinatal care.
The lab projects are conducted in collaboration with healthcare providers, researchers, institutions and companies at a national and international…
