The Marie Sklodowska Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship is one of funding scheme of the European Commission’s Horizon Europe Research & Innovation programme, dedicated to excellent research promoting international mobility, as well as interdisciplinary and intersect oral exchanges.
MSCA fellowship grant provides a competitive salary plus mobility and family allowances if applicable, as well as a contribution to cover research, training and networking costs. The research projects will have 2- or 3-years duration.
Selected candidates will be provided with special support for proposal writing and development.
The University of Genoa will organize in May the fifth edition of the Masterclass MSCAected candidate researchers will have the opportunity to attend a 2-days online intensive training and coaching course on how to write a successful proposal. This masterclass is a pathway of support to candidates and their supervisors in preparing project proposal, including prescreening activity of the draft proposals and the organisation of dedicated B2B meetings, by the European Research Office of Uni Ge, National Contact Point and other experts.
The masterclass will take place in May 2026.
MSCA domain:
Environmental and Geosciences (ENV);
Information Science and Engineering (ENG)
Research Project Description
Proposals should address one of the following thematic areas:

Numerical modeling of ocean waves and coastal hydraulics and morphodynamics, using either phase-resolving models for local-scale analyses (e.g., XBeach, FUNWAVE) or phase-averaged models (e.g., WAVEWATCH III, SWAN);
Assessment of wave energy potential and wave energy conversion, through numerical modeling and/or physical experiments;
Design and evaluation of Nature-Based Solutions for coastal environments, supported by numerical simulations and/or laboratory experiments;
Statistical characterization of extreme compound events, employing multivariate techniques such as copulas, conditional probability distributions, and related approaches;
Coastal monitoring and data acquisition, integrating citizen science initiatives with advanced image processing techniques.

Research Group
The candidate will join the Mete Ocean Research Group at the University of Genoa ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).). We are an interdisciplinary team ranging from full professors to early-career researchers and PhD students, working to advance scientific understanding across a broad spectrum of fields—from atmospheric, ocean, and coastal dynamics to the development of coastal engineering solutions for the sustainable management of natural systems in a changing climate.

Our facilities include high-performance computing resources, equipped with state-of-the-art processors and GPU acceleration, as well as a 30-meter-long wave flume for advanced physical modeling experiments. The group is highly proactive and internationally engaged, having secured approximately €2 million in research projects and consultancy funding over the past five years. Our scientific output includes more than 30 publications in top-ranked, peer-reviewed journals, along with regular participation in leading international conferences in coastal hydraulics and engineering, as well as atmospheric physics.

Our research areas encompass dispersion processes in both marine and atmospheric environments; applied statistics for geophysical data analysis; the design of coastal defense structures and nature-based solutions; numerical modeling of atmospheric and coastal processes; and the application of artificial intelligence for now casting and risk assessment.
Application
An expression of interest shall be sent to prof. Francesco De Leo (francesco.deleo, ORCID-4845) within 15th April 2026.
Your file should contain the following elements:
For MSCA-PF 26 call (opening foreseen on 10th April 2026), at the deadline for the submission of proposals (9th September 2026) postdoctoral candidates shall have a maximum of 8 years of postdoctoral research experience and must not have resided or carried out their main activities in Italy (for European Fellowship) or in the Third Country of the outgoing phase (for Global Fellowship) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the above mentioned deadline.
